This magnetic plug is displaying signs of particularly bad corrosion so this "old style" magnetic plug with a torx head will be replaced with the newer style hex head magnetic plug when we come to rebuild this engine ...

With the application of a sustained low torque on the magnetic plug it finally turned without the torx head spinning in the head of the magnetic plug. Applying too high a torque to a heavily corroded torx head can result in damage to the magnetic plug and having to resort to other methods to remove it so if it looks heavily corroded then apply a relatively low torque and just be patient. They usually just "let go" without damage after a while ...

For a normal 100 hour service this amount of particle collection is excessive and would warrant further investigation for a possible cause. In this instance, judging by the external condition of the magnetic plug however, it looks as though it hasn't been cleaned, removed or inspected since the engine was first comissioned!

To get a clearer idea of the condition of the magnetic plug it is a good idea to place it in a aerosol can lid or equivalent small container and rinse the engine oil off with some carb spray. This will make inspection of the build up easier. The carb spray serves to wash the oil away ...
